Spring Tonic
Fill 16 oz jar with the following from the garden
Dandelion leaf, flower and root (we will dig)
Nettle leaf
Chickweed
Cleavers
Cover with ACV, shake everyday or when you remember. After 3 weeks, strain into a measuring cup and add equal parts local honey. Store in cool dark area. I take 2-4 tablespoons per day, some people prefer a shot glass daily. This sweet/sour combination is a favorite with my friends.
The following herbs are the first responders in the greenhouse bringing us the first energies of Springtime
Dandelion leaf has an affinity for the kidneys and is a mild diuretic, the root, has an affinity for the liver and helps facilitate digestion improving daily eliminination. Dandelion provides many important vitamins and minerals.
Nettle, although it has many medicinal properties is one of the most nutritious plants on the planet and is often thought of as a food. Loaded with vitamins and minerals
Chickweed-A mover and a cooler, don’t eat too much or you won’t be leaving home. Chickweed is diuretic and again loaded with vitamins and minerals
Cleavers-A lymph mover, trash taker outer! Also a nutritious green
All of the above herbs are rich in vitamins and minerals. I like to eat them raw, (except the nettle) and often include them in veggie wraps and salads. I use vinagrette dressing when I do as vinegar unlocks the minerals and makes them more available and can help increase the digestability of them.
Vinegar excels at extracting the mineral content from your plants such as iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, selenium, potassium, phosphate, and iodine. The minerals play essential roles in our overall health including bone strength, immune function and cellular processes.
This herbal tonic can be considered a detox aid/multi-vitamin and mineral supplement. With the inclusion of sunshine and the wild energy of the plants this tonic will put a little spring in your step!
